Whether your vehicle is getting painted as part of collision repair, or just because you want to freshen up its appearance, you’ll want it to keep your new paint job looking beautiful for as long as possible. At Hance’s Uptown Collision Center, our technicians are highly experienced with auto painting in the greater Plano area. And we’d be happy to discuss ways to keep your car’s new paint job in great condition. Here’s a look at four quick tips for protecting your car’s new paint job.

Wash Bi-Weekly

If dirt and debris build up on your vehicle’s exterior, it can sully the paint job. To prevent this, you’ll want to wash your car every two weeks using proper non-abrasive materials such as microfiber washing mitts. Also, there are certain contaminants that should be washed away ASAP. Namely, bird droppings should be promptly removed because they’re highly acidic and can damage the paint job in little time.

Wax Routinely

Regular waxing will give your paint job a layer of protection against contaminants such as dirt, dust, bird droppings, bugs, and tree sap. It’s good to wax every three months at minimum, though many drivers wax more frequently.

Careful when Choosing Public Parking Spots

If you’re out running errands, you should choose parking spots that don’t squeeze you tightly between two other vehicles. In tight spots, there’s a much greater risk of somebody swinging their door open right into your vehicle, which can scratch your paint and potentially cause a dent. It’s also best to avoid parking under areas where birds are gathering, such as power lines, poles, and trees.

Use Your Garage

If you have a garage on your property, you’ll want to make space in it for your car. By regularly parking in your garage, your paint job will be much better protected from fading due to UV rays. Your garage will also help to safeguard your car’s exterior against other risks, such as bird droppings, hail, vandals, and clawed critters.
