The History of Land Rover

Land Rover started as the Rover Company back in 1885 when it was actually a bicycle manufacturer in Warwickshire, England. It changed ownership hands a few times over the years but is now owned by Tata Motors, an Indian auto manufacturer.

In 1947, Maurice Wilks, Rover Company chairman, designed the first Land Rover model which was built using a Jeep axle and chassis. The following year, it made its debut at the Amsterdam Motor Show.

The Rover Company became Rover Triumph in 1967, a part of Leyland Motors. It wasn’t until 1978 that Land Rover Limited became its own company under the name British Leyland Motors. BMW acquired The Rover Group in 1994, and was sold to Ford six years later in 2000. Tata Motors bought Land Rover and Jaguar in 2008.

Let’s take a look at some of the most common models of 2023 vehicles made by Land Rover, mostly comprised of upmarket and luxury sport utility cars.
